The long-awaited Gaga’s Workshop is now officially openat Barneys in New York.

Lady Gaga was on hand last night — in a custom Chanel couture dress, specially designed by Karl Lagerfeld for the occasion — to cut the ribbon and welcome inside the likes of Prabal Gurung, Carolyn Murphy, and Alexander Wang.

The store’s fifth floor is completely transformed until Jan. 2, filled with chocolate Alexander McQueen armadillo shoes, studded press-on nails, and candle replicas of Gaga’s head that cry when lit. Inflatable cartoonish sculptures and taxicab wraps promoted the opening around the city, and Barneys’s windows, too, have been Gaga-fied. “My favorite window I think is [the] one window that looks like my boudoir and it’s covered in blonde hair,” Gaga told WWD. “It’s gorgeous.”

Despite all the expenditure, Barneys expects to break even on the promotion, its chief executive Mark Lee said. Twenty-five percent of the workshop’s sales will go to Gaga’s new Born This Way Foundation, which focuses on youth empowerment; Lee added that the store hopes to raise over $1 million for the cause.

Gaga’s Workshop Lands at Barneys

On November 21st Barneys New York unveiled Gaga’s Workshop: a holiday shopping extravaganza an entire year in the making. The project — a collaboration between Lady Gaga, Nicola Formichetti, Barneys creative director Dennis Freedman, and installation artists Eli Subrack and Christophe Hamaide Pierson, taking over the entire fifth floor of the Barneys Madison Avenue flagship. Eight elaborate shopping stations — a jewelry shop made of a Lady Gaga-faced spider, a bookstore in the shape of a giant pop-up book, a boudoir styled like a giant wig, for example — will sell over 170 limited-edition Gaga-themed products. Among the goodies? Chocolate Christmas ornaments ($6), Gaga-topped snow globes ($95), glittery handmade chocolate skulls ($68), claw-shaped stockings ($65), and a one-of-kind pair of black shoes ($4,100). Also available will be a selection of Lady Gaga’s personal childhood holiday favorites — Roald Dahl books, candy lipsticks, malted milk balls, gum balls — hand-picked with help from an expert: her mother.

Gaga’s Workshop officially opens at 11:59 p.m. Nov. 21 and will stay open through Jan. 2. Until then, peek elements from the project here, with more products unveiled each day for presale on Barneys’ just-launched Gaga’s Workshop website. Lady Gaga is larger than life (literally) on the cover of Visionaire’s newest $1,500 issue

Known for her crazy outfits and antics—like showing up to the Grammys in an egg—we aren’t shocked by Lady Gaga’s cover for the newest issue of Visionaire Magazine. Styled by her BFF Nicola Formichetti, she appears as an oil-slicked mermaid—standard fare for the pop star, really. What is outrageous, however, is the magazine’s literal take on the issue’s theme of larger than life. The deluxe issue measures in at 5×7 feet (yes, that’s taller than the average human) and costs a cool $1,500. (The standard issue is a measly 3×4 feet in size, and much more affordable.) It should go without saying the size has broken a Guinness World Record.

While we’re sure the content inside is amazing—Karl Lagerfeld and Bruce Weber are among contributors—the issue’s size makes it difficult reading material for your morning commute or an afternoon at the park on a nice fall day, as seen in this promotional video by Visionaire. So we’re left with a few questions: Do you think the deluxe edition is worth the hefty price tag? What would you do with a magazine this big? Feel free to share your thoughts with us!

Madonna bustier auctioned for £45,000

The custom-made piece – created by Los Angeles based store Trashy Lingerie(yep, that’s the brand name)  – was worn during her 1987 ‘Who’s That Girl’ tour, and went under the hammer in China for way above its pre-sale estimate of £4,000 to £5,000.

Previously displayed at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Ohio and The Frederick’s of Hollywood Museum in Los Angeles, the garment was sold by Beverly Hills-based auctioneers Julien’s Auctions at the Ponte resort in Macau, China, alongside 23 other pieces of Madonna memorabilia.

The outfit was specially selected for Madonna’s first world tour – which took place 24 years ago – by her stylist and costume designer Marlene Stewart. Madonna wore it on tour with black fishnets and little else, beginning a sartorial habit that she’d stick to on her 1990 Blonde Ambition Tour with that famous Jean Paul Gaultier cone bra.

Madonna had said at the time: ‘The most important ingredients are the crop top, the bare midriff, a hip-hugger skirt or pants and lingerie straps showing under your top.’

Get a taste of vintage Madonna and see the bustier in its original form in the pictures below!

THE END OF R.E.M. written by Helena m.

21ST of September 2011 might be the end of the world as R.E.M. fans know it. In a short statement posted on their website, the members of the legendary group announced their decision to “call it a day.” Here’s the full text of their note:

“To our Fans and Friends: As R.E.M., and as lifelong friends and co-conspirators, we have decided to call it a day as a band. We walk away with a great sense of gratitude, of finality, and of astonishment at all we have accomplished. To anyone who ever felt touched by our music, our deepest thanks for listening.” R.E.M

The band was together for just over three decades. R.E.M. released 15 albums including “Murmur”, “Reckoning”, “Document”, “Out of Time”, “Automatic For the People”, and “Monster”. The band’s last album, “Collapse Into Now”, was released in March. Late this year, they plan to release greatest hits collection, which will include a handful of new songs finished after the band completed “Collapse Into Now”.
